“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.  Is there anything of which one can say, ‘Look! This is something new? ‘  It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time.”

-- Ecclesiastes 1:9-10, New International Version (NIV)

Why We Can’t Escape the “Hound of Heaven”!

Some will wonder why I gave such a title to this Page and why, above it, I used a quote from the Holy Bible. If I didn’t know myself as well as I do, I’d also wonder why; however, since I know me best, I don’t. I plan my explanation, of course; notwithstanding, I suspect my detailing will cause many more to “roll” their eyes in disbelief of my “fantasy” regarding why I lean so heavily on quantum mechanics to argue my position for believing that we are of the same intelligence/consciousness as nature’s intelligence/consciousness (the Creator’s)—many more than rolled their eyes when I merely suggested that quantum mechanics answered my questions about non-materialistic mind; and saved me from the mistake that continues being made by “orthodox” philosophers, psychologists and other cognitive scientists who give the brain credit for being synonymous with the mind—its designer, its creator.

Before I begin, though, allow me to be commercial for a few words to offer you an opportunity to learn of my spiritual philosophy. In my book Why Not Do God? Using Your Spiritual Dimension of Personality, you will find explanation after explanation of how I feel—that lacking an appreciation (an acceptance) of our spiritual dimension of personality, and only as it emanates from our Creator, we lack wholeness in our humanness. Since getting that opportunity is not here and now, let me invite you to review the schematic you will find on The Shrink’s Theory Page. It contains a flow chart designed to explain how God’s Energy is the source of all necessary energy to launch both our mental expressions and body expressions—in addition to supplying our spiritual needs. If you wish, do that now in order to have in mind some of which I will write.

Though you may not have noticed, a common thread runs throughout my efforts toward developing this Web Page—one that results from long term concern about my perceived short-sightedness on part of many cognitive scientists. Over time it came to me that too many are locked into the belief that there are only objective or physical realms of existence, and that subjective or non-physical (psychic) realms are epiphenomenal—they are non-measurable (perhaps nonexistent) issues, therefore it is unnecessary to understand thinking, reasoning, deducting and other mental actions that every sentient being does in any terms other than they are products of the brain—they believe that the brain is the cause of all the mental actions. Too many are locked into the classical physics of Newton (and those who built on his ideas.) In all this, I could not find any explanation that satisfied me regarding such abstract entities as intelligence/consciousness, mind, soul, etc.  Only when I delved into quantum physics (mechanics) did I find reasonable answers to my questions. And, although there continue to be important unanswered questions, I experience within more sense and sensibility; there is less mystery than before. I have found the ends of at least some pieces of string. Others remain entangled.

Some of the more attracting questions are regarding who we are and what the reason is for our being on Earth—what the reason is for our Universe and all that it contains. And, of course, even our wonderment itself commenced with its beginning—wonderment comes because we are! Think about it for a moment. If our Universe weren’t put into existence, what difference would it all make? would wondering itself exist? Of course not. That we have our universe (at least the one of which we know) is itself a huge mystery. How did it come to be? The final answer to this basic question is still up for grabs, despite the many theories that are given to explain its origin. We grasp and worry about it, and we should. Can you imagine no Universe? Lacking a  Universe, everything that is—every conceivable bit of matter, every conceivable bit of energy—would be absent. But, here we are!  Notwithstanding that’s so, how did it all begin?

At present, and for a long time, it is ecumenically accepted that our Universe came to be resulting from an explosion of unimaginable force, causing unimaginable heat and involving an indescribable atom-sized bit of matter/energy—indescribable because no one knows its composition, its position in what medium it existed, from where it came nor how it was “set off”.  (“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they can not fathom what God has done from beginning to end . . . . .I know that everything that God does will endure forever, nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it.” – Ecclesiastes 4:11-14, New International Version [NIV]).

No one knows what existed before the atom-sized matter/energy came into existence. The Universe’s existence is one huge (without being tautological) enigma. Yet, as I said, “Here we are!” Now, it appears that all we can do is to make the most of it and try to figure out some answers to questions that are more cogent to our immediate circumstance. This isn’t all bad; for, Socratic-like, asking the right questions to get answers, in a proper sequence, we may “work our way back” to answers to the big questions—a fortiori—how, where and when did it all begin? However, I’m not holding my breath for it to happen soon.  I’m satisfied that a Creation happened, that all the matter and energy (of which matter is composed) came into existence, and that I have the opportunity to deal with the present. It took between fourteen to fifteen billion years for us to “get where we are”, and doubtless there will be that long time, forever really, for the Universe to continue in its expanding. Some theories spell its doom by its collapsing back onto itself; however, even if that were to be true, it probably would take as long for it to do that as it will take it to get expanded as far as it is to be. In my remarks on the God’s Universe page the issues regarding the Universe are mentioned. It isn’t necessary to repeat those issues here. It might be mentioned, though, that we are extremely lucky to be here in the first place. It is estimated that if the huge red stars that are credited with production of oxygen (resulting from breakdown of helium molecules) were to be but two or three degrees (or percent) off from their present efficiency, we’d be non-existent! It would take a while for the necessary oxygen to be depleted; but with no more being produced, we—and all oxygen using species—would be gone from the scene. I don’t know about the non-oxygen using species. To my knowledge, there aren’t any important those around (except extremely primitive single cell animals or plants.) I am aware that adaptation skills each species has may save the day, allowing another gas to substitute for oxygen (and other gases necessary to sustain life); but I don’t know for sure. No one does. Regarding the creation of the Universe: We must not lose sight of the fact that everything of which we are aware—every material object, every invention, every thought, every emulation, emotion, song, story, word, action and reaction—everything that is, or will be, came with Creation, and exists in its unique form at present, being observed—or has potentiality to exist being observed.  Everything came with the territory; and, after creation—not before—this applies: “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, ‘Look! This is something new?’ It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time.” – Ecclesiastes 1:9-10, New International Version, (NIV).

But what does this have to do with my total belief in and reliance on nature’s energy (Creator’s energy) being in control of all materialistic and non-materialistic matter and action—including the brain and all mental behavior?  What does it have to do with the identicalness of nature’s intelligence/consciousness and human intelligence/consciousness—and particularly the non-materialistic mind? It has everything to do with it. Briefly, and detailing the relationship, it unfolds this way:  After the indescribable small atom-sized bit of matter/energy exploded, causing unimaginable force and unimaginable heat and the Universe, everything (that’s everything) that continued after launched at the quanta level; therefore materialistic and non-materialistic entities are quanta based. The quanta level is basic to every other level. All levels of existence above are dependent on the indivisible particles called quanta. This is an absolute. That is, in delineating the levels of matter (energy based), first there is the quanta, then the chemical, then the biological—with their various properties and complexities. At the ultimate of the hierarchy are sentient humans espousing philosophical, psychological, other human concerns and states of affair. However complex the human physiology, including the brain (or any other life for that matter) may be, it lacks materialistic ability to deal with any and all non-materialistic issues. No degree of physical complexity of the human brain can originate the mind. It remains in the realm of the non-materialistic—having no physical characteristic. It remains non-local, stored in the “ocean of energy”, quantum energy; or, as some physicists opine, “quantum ether.” As it is, however, the human brain is the designated vehicle for the expression of the mind and all non-local activity. And, further, quanta energy has influence on all other cellular activity of sentient humans (probably on all living things), since thousands of years of adaptation have provided the complexity allowing the influence. (See the schematic on The Shrink’s Theory page.) With regard to this influence, it reflects that once a particle of energy comes into contact with another particle of energy, each will forever know the position of the other. Hence, my assertion that every cell in any body, having been influenced by a particle of energy (extracted from the “ocean of energy”), “knows” the status of every other cell in that body, following the edict that is so on the quantum level. I call this characteristic “body intelligence” and include it as one characteristic of the sub-unconscious level of awareness of human personality. (Again, see the schematic on The Shrink’s Theory page.) From this, one can easily guarantee how quanta are integrated— and controlling—in the total human condition, even to the cellular level. To appreciate this, especially appreciate the manner in which this happens, I refer you to The Mind and Quantum Energy page. In it, I establish that the brain cells, neurons, are not only “transmitters”, they are “receivers”—a characteristic that is found in all the body’s cells, albeit with different results and for different purpose from those assigned to neurons.

One can wonder how the neurons deal with non-materialistic characteristics of the “ocean of energy”. The fact is they don’t—following the diktat that materialistic entities can not deal with non-materialistic issues. However, in my opinion, there are ways in which the neurons are ultimately advantaged by the non-material; however only after wave form collapses to particle form. This is my take—my theory: It is my view that the “ocean of energy” (quantum energy) is in wave form—potentiality—and remains in this form until observed (or measured), at which time the wave collapses into particle form upon being observed. The principle of complimentary relationship applies—to understand the two, wave and particle forms of energy, one must accept that each compliments the other, and are two forms of the same thing. The neurons are the sites at which the collapses occur (possibly in microtubules) which are in “receiver” mode at the time of collapse. That is, when the neuron “receives” or “observes” the wave form of energy (non-materialistic) the wave collapses into particle form of energy (materialistic), and “controls” the neuron for what purposes are to be served at the time of collapse. Such purposes are germane to cultural (or environmental) influence—that is, the action caused by the collapse (being materialistic) is guided by the cultural circumstances at the time of collapse—the cultural environment or influence determines what form the action caused by the collapse will take. Of course, the length of time a sentient human is in a cultural circumstance has much to do with the “action” that occurs. The infant in a cultural environment will certainly act differently from an adult, due to the longer time “receiving” non-materialistic wave energy that collapses to particle energy. Degree of maturation plays a part in the action of individuals in all cultures. Regarding how the “control” is exerted, think of it as similar to a radio signal controlled boat. The radio signal is independent from the boat while the boat is subject to the conditions of the medium in which it is traversing—obstacles, destination, speed and purpose, etc.

I believe the process begins very early in the life of who is to become a sentient human, probably during the early development of the brain (even during the fetal period.) It is a constant process continuing throughout the life of the individual, having “spurts” and quiet times, depending  on the brain’s development, and on the individual’s cultural contact and exposure to formal learning time (education in whatever form.) There are, of course, obstacles as well as enhancements, depending on the life circumstances of each individual. Diseases (meningitis, encephalitis, damaging febrile conditions, etc.) can affect the brain’s structure. Injuries to brain tissue from various sources—minor or major lesions, severe concussions, cerebral vascular accidents, drug damage (alcohol or other drugs, etc.), senile deterioration resulting from mini-strokes, Alzheimer disease and the like are deterrents to reception of potential energy. All in all, though there are major and minor reasons for disruption, there is more normalcy than abnormality, reviewing the statistics.

Eventually and resulting from maturation, specific and “sensitive” tissue areas of the brain form “engram clumps” resulting from particle energy activity, activity that forms memories or “memory complexes” explicit (and implicit) to each individual, germane to circumstances within the range of cultural and societal pressures, and determining the behavior of that individual in the cultural pool. Is it that such “clumping” may explain why the “materialistic” cognitive scientists consider parts of the brain responsible for the “origin of the mind.”?  Ontologically, however, no section of the brain has anything to do with the origin. Wherever “clumps” occur in the brain is merely where many “collapses” have occurred, being sensitive to the non-materialistic wave forms originating in the “ocean of energy”.

How efficient the brain tissue, especially the neurons, glial cells, astrocytes synaptic clefts, etc., is in “collapsing” wave energy to particle energy (a complimentary process) depends on a variety of issues at the level of each individual’s brain—genetic makeup, synaptic efficiency, general physiological health, presence or absence of deficiencies caused by diseases, prenatal or postnatal injuries, deteriorative aging problems, etc. Notwithstanding, the “collapse” of wave energy to particle energy takes place at the level of the brain tissue (with all issues related to the brain involved.)

This, then, is an abbreviated view of my theory regarding how, though our complexity would appear to be a formidable barrier to understanding, I consider the non-materialistic energy becomes the basis for materialistic energy at the level of the neurons—how I consider we “tap” into the ocean of energy potentiality created at the time of the origin of the Universe. I can conceive complexity in my theory—complexity requiring much research, work and detailing to establish it as an acceptable working model. This is to be expected, nor can it be otherwise. My views stretch out and interfere with other views, to be sure. I invite comparison and dialogue. Sprinkled throughout my Web Site, I’ve given a way to contact me for that purpose. Everyone is invited.

The questions I pose regarding the origin of the atom-sized particle of matter/energy, how it came into being, what was before its existence, how did it get “set off”, what was the condition of the Universe miniscule seconds of time after its massive burst all are as much a mystery to others as to myself. Taking a different tack from others brings me to task, and I accept the challenge. My belief that the stellar beginning came resulting from an Intelligent Designer’s drawing board fits well with a large majority of others. Taking my belief to a higher level which says that no thing, no life (in whatever form)—no energy—exists lacking a beginning makes sense to me. There is nothing that escapes the fact that, without the indivisible “world” of quanta, there would be nothing. No life form, with the epitome of it being sentient humans, escapes that its basis is the quanta particles. And no life form escapes that its beginning is by Design, and by an Intelligent Designer; hence my simple answer to:  Why We Can’t Escape the “Hound of Heaven.” We can’t because we all are of the same stuff as the created Universe—and are not able to be free from its composing quanta. This is true for the staunchest believer as well as for the rabid atheist. Argue as they will, each against the other, neither arguer can escape that they are of the same stuff—have been, and will always be, from when “stuff” began. They are no different.  So, why are they arguing?  It gives me pleasure to quote poetic physicist Dr. John Hagelin again: “This wholly conceptual quantum mechanical world, and the abstract mathematical laws that govern it, is the nonmaterial, inner mind or ‘soul’ behind other matter. It is made of the very stuff that thoughts are made of. Mathematical logic alone governs its behavior. This abstract, non-material quantum world underlies, and governs, the other material universe.” Period.  No matter how hard we try to escape that we are all on common ground, we will fail; since, the groundwork for it was laid billions of years ago, and is the end result of an Intelligent Designer, and we—and everything in the Universe—are the end products. We are created in the Intelligent Designer’s image, as it was His purpose to do. We cannot escape the Hound of Heaven since we are part of Him and He is part of us. He will be with us always.
